8) Matters Arising
Carnival Pricing
There had been some issues raised regarding the pricing of the Carnival, this was discussed by all present. Tim Cliffe had a copy of a programme for Cheadle Carnival from 2000. In 2000 the admission for Saturday was £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for OAPs and £1.50 for children. It was discussed that a flat fee of £5.00 per adult for the Saturday and Sunday admission was not unreasonable and that accompanied children were free. Therefore, the pricing structure is to remain as for this year for 2020.
Fairground Contract
Tim Cliffe raised the possibility of entering into a 3-year contract with Chris Ibbs for the fairground element of the Carnival. This was agreed by all Committee members present. A contract needs to be developed to reflect this.
Sub-Committees
Jason Carnwell raised a concern regarding the promoting and planning of the annual Soapbox race. Jason suggested that a Sub-Committee may be useful for this event. Lorna Lindsey stated that Sub-Committees could be useful for other elements of Carnival planning.
All Committee members voted in favour of a Sub-Committee for Soapbox but agreed that a Committee member should be present at all Sub-Committee meetings to ensure that Cheadle Carnival continue to be well presented.
Soapbox
Lesley Shaw raised reservations about this year’s Soapbox, querying the venue but also raising a need for entertainment to keep the public present. Event is to remain early September after the main Carnival.
