Fairground Ride

Our Story

Back in 2016 the first Cheadle Carnival Committee for around 30 years was created. Every member had the same vision – to bring back what was once the highlight of the year for the community. Since then the Committee has grown to have a team of people who work hard throughout the year to bring you the best weekend of entertainment we can.

To enable us to hold this event, a huge amount of fundraising was needed to raise the funds to put on an amazing show for the town. Fundraising initially started in 2016 ready to put on the first Carnival in 2018 with music nights, the ever popular Soapbox Race and karting events. In 2018 we took over the Santa Sleigh from Cheadle & District Round Table to enable this popular tradition to continue.

We held our first Carnival in July 2018. This exceeded all expectations with thousands of people lining the streets for the traditional parade and then making their way to the Memorial Recreation Ground on Tean Road to enjoy a weekend of entertainment. The highlight of the weekend for many was seeing the Lancaster Bomber flypast.

In 2019 we held our second annual event which again was another fantastic weekend, for our Around the World in 80 Days theme. Whilst the weather wasn’t as glorious as the previous year, it did just about hold off for people to enjoy the entertainment. On Saturday night we had the popular Dan Budd as Robbie Williams and a line up performing as the remaining members of Take That.

Sunday saw many local artists take to the stage, including Joslyn Plant from The Voice Kids. We also had many popular attractions including ‘The Owl Man’ and Dinosaurs.

The 2020 and 2021 Carnivals were unfortunately cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and all plans were rolled forwards to 2022.

2022 saw the return of the Carnival weekend after the two-year hiatus. We had the world-famous JCB Dancing Diggers, widely regarded as the down-to-earth Red Arrows. We also had another flypast by the Lancaster Bomber.

Other attractions included Jez Avery Stunt Show, Legends of Sound and House Jammerz, with JCB providing further support by sponsoring the Main Stage.

After further fundraising, planning started for Carnival 2023 in August 2022. The committee secured a display by the world-famous monster trucks Big Pete and The Grim Reaper. 10 scrap cars were provided by local recycling company Hartley’s Skip Hire.

Broadband company FullFibre sponsored the Main Stage where artists including local band; Moon Dogs, Loxi Abbott, Henry Myles, and Vibealicious performed over the weekend, while Sunday’s arena act was the Vander Wheel of Death.

In January 2024, we welcomed in the New Year by announcing our Friday night event for this year – Rave on the Rec, with tickets now available via Skiddle.

Planning for Carnival 2024 is now into the final stages, with many acts still to be announced. We have our largest ever number of arena acts, and a full schedule of live music on Saturday and Sunday!

Keep an eye on the website, Facebook, and Instagram for more details.
